Amigos this is a moan about platforms using in most of industry, the obsession with MT4?!! Seems like nearly every broker offers only MT4 or the newer one, even though both bad. Look bad. Bad to use. Anyone else want to see change here?!

Juan, I feel your pain. Never liked MetaTrade myself but there’s light at the end of the tunnel as more and more firms are offering dece alternatives with cTrader being my personal fave. It’s been my go to alternative for years and you can get it at IC or Pepperstone, both reliable options if you’re serious about day trading.

Why the hate? MetaTrader 4 has been popular for decades and it is popular for a reason. If you want speed and dependability (which I do for algo trading) it’s a solid option, although MT5 gets my vote over MT4.

I’ve been using cTrader for years. I just can’t get on with MetaTrader.

I’ve transitioned to TradingView in recent years, mainly for the sleeker look and feel. There’s also plenty of charting power under the bonnet for my needs and you can buy MT4 indicators that have been adapted for TradingView from the marketplace. Worth a look if you’re growing tired of MT4.

I agree with David and Christian – cTrader is the way to go

                        Hi Juan,

In case helpful, we’ve done a piece on alternatives to MetaTrader. It covers several of the platforms the guys here have already mentioned, plus others like ThinkTrader.

At the bottom we’ve also listed brokers with excellent in-house platforms, many of which provide a smoother entry point for newer traders in our view.

I wouldn’t mind getting your guys take on the ProRealTime software. Is that a worthy alternative as well?

                              Hi Steve,

We have evaluated the ProRealTime platform to a certain degree in our review of IG.

We found it’s a particularly good option for advanced day traders owing to the extensive charting suite (over 100 indicators) and support for automated trading.

Key considerations are that is costs £30 per month unless you meet the minimum number of trades (4 per month at the time of writing).

Similar to MT4, the workspace (although highly customizable) could also do with work if it’s to match the slick design of alternatives in the market today.

Thanks James. It turns out you can get free access to ProRealTime charts for a month as an IG user so I’ll test drive it that way.
