Pros

  • Beginners should appreciate the free $10,000 demo account and I like that there’s also a copy trading solution for those who want to follow the strategies of others
  • High leverage is available for experienced traders at the Australian branch, up to 1:200. I also found MAM and PAMM accounts are available for eligible money managers
  • I’m happy with the broker’s regulatory status, with top-tier licensing from the UK’s FCA and ASIC. This means traders can access compensation schemes and negative balance protection

Cons

  • It would have also been nice to see a wider choice of platforms for clients and perhaps a bespoke solution
  • The demo account has a time limit of just 14 days, which I don’t feel is enough for beginners to get acquainted with the platform and test out their first strategies
  • I’m a little disappointed in the small range of assets available at Aetos, with even fewer markets available for UK clients. I would have liked to see a wider range of currency pairs and shares, for example

AETOS Review

AETOS offers forex and CFD trading on energies, indices and metals. This review focuses on the broker’s product range and MT4 trading platform, plus the deposit joining bonus. Learn more about AETOS and decide whether this broker is right for you.

AETOS Details

The AETOS group was set up in 2007 and includes the Australian-based AETOS Capital Pty Group Ltd, regulated by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) and the UK-based AETOS Capital Group (UK) Ltd, regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). AETOS Markets Ltd is regulated by the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission (VFSC).

The broker has offices in Sydney and London and provides financial services to residents in over 100 countries.

Trading Platforms

Clients with AETOS login credentials can access the financial markets using MetaTrader 4 (MT4), which is an industry-leading technology designed to optimise the trading experience.

MT4

MT4 is a hugely popular trading platform suited to traders with a variety of experience levels. This platform is delivered as downloadable software with one-click trading and offers:

AETOS MT4
AETOS MT4

The MT4 platform can also be accessed from a browser via the MT4 WebTrader. This offers the same advanced level of technical and drawing options, plus the full suite of trading operations from the native platform. The web platform is ideal for convenient trading and ensures robust data protection.

Assets

The broker offers trading on a range of prime assets:

Although AETOS offers a good selection of financial instruments, its rank in our review could be bettered with the addition of cryptocurrency trading.

Trading Fees

AETOS offers relatively low-cost trading and tight spreads. For the general account, the typical EUR/USD spread is 1.8 pips which drops to 1.2 pips with the advanced account. For the FTSE100 index futures CFD, the typical spread is 25 pips with both live accounts.

The broker also charges an overnight open position fee, which is fairly standard in the industry. This review would have liked to see lower spreads offered for the advanced account type, as other large brokers offer close-to-zero spreads.

Leverage Review

Both branches of AETOS offer leveraged trading. The Australia-based arm offers leverage up to 1:200 for forex and between 1:100 and 1:400 for energy, indices, metals, and shares. The UK-based branch offers maximum leverage of 1:30 on their products, depending on volatility, in line with European guidelines.

Mobile Apps

The MT4 platform is available as a mobile app on Android, iPhone and tablet devices. Clients can trade in a single click and enjoy excellent functionality comparable with the desktop version.

Payments

Deposits

AETOS traders have to deposit a minimum of $50 with the general account and $1,000 with the advanced account. Clients can deposit funds into their trading account by wire transfer, Visa/MasterCard, or digital wallets such as Skrill or Neteller. Payment methods other than Visa are free of charge. Lead times are 1-5 business days for wire transfer and up to 1 business day for other methods.

Withdrawals

To start the withdrawal process, traders should login to their trade account and select the withdrawal function. Payments can be processed by wire transfer, taking up to 5 business days, and clients are charged $25 if no valid trading is registered on their account.

Note many brokers require traders to verify their identity before payments can be processed.

Demo Account

AETOS offers a 14-day demo account to trade with $10,000 in virtual funds. Clients can practice on the markets trading forex and CFDs. The simulator account is an excellent way to test the MT4 platform, customer support and trading tools.

Joining Bonuses

The Australian branch of AETOS is currently offering a redeemable deposit joining bonus. The promotion pays a bonus of up to $20,000 depending on the amount deposited. The offer becomes redeemable if clients meet volume trading requirements inside 7 months of opening an account. AETOS does not offer a no deposit bonus at present.

The UK branch of AETOS does not currently offer any promotional bonuses due to European restrictions on retail trading incentives.

Regulation

AETOS is regulated by well-respected financial authorities; namely the ASIC and the FCA, plus the VFSC (which is less reputable).

The Australian arm is licensed by the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), which includes membership to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority to resolve disputes between clients and firms.

The UK arm is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is part of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, which protects clients of firms that are unable to return user funds. The UK arm also provides negative balance protection, so losses greater than the initial deposit are avoided.

Additionally, AETOS’ offshore branch holds a license with the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission (VFSC).

Additional Trading Tools

AETOS offers an economic calendar, a market news section with regular articles, and a daily market commentary piece on its website. The broker also regularly uploads educational webinars and weekly news round-ups to their YouTube channel.

Trading with AETOS also offers clients technical strategies provided by Trading Central, an investment research provider that combines AI with analyst expertise to give traders investment decision support.

AETOS Accounts

The General account offers a relatively low minimum deposit, trading volume from 0.01 lots, and rapid market execution. The brokerage also offers an Advanced account suited to high-net-worth clients, requiring a larger deposit in return for more competitive spreads. Both accounts have a maximum position size of 50 lots.

Clients can also apply for a professional account via the website. Applicants must meet criteria including a high trading frequency maintained over the past year and a strong portfolio, alongside previous employment in the financial sector.

AETOS Trading Hours

Traders can log in to their account at any time and trade from Sunday from 21:11 to Friday at 21:00 (GMT). AETOS UK also provides a full trading schedule for each asset on its website.

Customer Support

AETOS has locations in both Sydney and London. This broker also has a reliable live chat function and a Feedback Centre available via their Contact Us form. The broker does not offer email support.

Security

AETOS has a robust policy in place to ensure personal information is protected, using secure servers to hold client data and processing transactions via SSL encryption technology. AETOS also holds trader funds in a separate account which is audited to ensure compliance with Australian law.

AETOS Verdict

AETOS is an FCA and ASIC-regulated forex and CFD broker that has much to offer both novice and advanced traders. The broker provides reasonable spreads, a strong deposit bonus incentive in Australia, plus the MT4 terminal. AETOS could improve in our review by offering a wider asset range and more competitive spreads with their Advanced account.
