Anyone here know who invented FX trading? How’d it come about?

I don’t think any one person invented forex trading my friend. It’s been around in some guise for centuries, think ancient times where people exchanged goods and then eventually coins and the like.

It blew up for us retail traders in the 1990s with internet access and then all these platforms and apps.

You might find someone online taking the credit, but I don’t think forex trading is one of those things that has been invented per say.

Here’s how FX trading started and how it’s evolved:

• Ancient times: Money changers exchanged coins for trade and travel.
• Gold Standard (~1870s): Currencies pegged to gold; stable exchange rates.
• Bretton Woods (1944): USD pegged to gold; other currencies pegged to USD.
• System collapse (1971–1973): Free-floating exchange rates begin.
• 1990s: Online platforms open FX trading to retail investors.
• 2000s–today: FX becomes highly liquid, global, and 24/7.

Nice timeline mate. So in the 90s then, there wasn’t anyone that spearheaded the charge to build the first FX platform?
